"Only the educated are free." Epictetus (55-135 AD)
OUR COLLECTION---The books in our collection were selected using staff and student recommendations, nationally recommended lists, award winners and professionally reviewed books that show merit. Due to the wide range of maturity level and interests in a high school, some titles will not be appropriate for every one. Just because a movie has won awards doesn’t mean you will enjoy it. So it is with books and Internet sites. You need to use your own judgement to filter what you see and read. It is our expectation that students and their families will take time to look at the books and make personal choices that are a good fit, by interest, maturity and reading level.
RESEARCH---Need information? There is a list of databases and URLs on the Resources page. Notice that some require passwords when you are not at school. You can get those from Mrs. Orell. In addition to these resources, you can check out the librarian website on the Volcano Vista site. We have files set up for some of the special projects you have been assigned. Remember to use your research cycle (SUCCEED) as you collect and use your information. Triangulate your information to be sure you are using quality sources.
Paraphrase, paraphrase, paraphrase...and cite your sources using MLA.
Remember http://www.easybib.com/ will make citations an easy task.
